As evidence, Gartner, Inc. predicts that by 2015, 50% of all ecommerce website sales will be made via mobile applications. Mcommerce shoppers tend to utilize tablets for research purposes, but according to a recent study by eMarketer, mobile shoppers using tablets to make purchases will total 146 million by 2017, representing nearly seven out of 10 digital shoppers.  

Another notable trend is the digital wallet, which allows consumers to use a mobile or stationary (PC) device and an epayment application (e.g. Paypal, Google Wallet) to pay online or at retail. In 2013, Digital Wallets and Payments: Sneak Peek, comScore reported that in 2012, 52% of consumers preferred to use a digital wallet for purchases made both online and at brick-and-mortar retailers. This is important to online sellers because it demonstrates that consumers are feeling more secure than ever about making epayments.
